Narrators – Midsummer Night’s Dream
Narrator 1: This is a play about love
Narrator 2/3: Blech!
N1: About friendship
N2/3: Great!
N1: And about imagination
N2/3: [Pretends like imagining something, i.e. finger on chin and looking to sky]
N1: I mean really, can you always believe your eyes?
N2/3: Well, maybe [makes eyeglasses with fingers] or maybe not.
N1: This play starts in a magical forest and Puck.
N2: He is the assistant to the fairy king named Oberon.
N1: Puck tell us about mischief that the fairies can make on people.
N3: Real people. Those sneaky fairies they always cause trouble.
Scene 2:
Narrator 4: This scene starts in a castle in Athens Greece
Narrator 5: Theseus is the Duke in charge of the castle.
Narrator 6: Theseus is getting married in four days
N4: His new wife is the queen of the Amazon, an area that the Duke Theseus conquered.
N5: Her name is Hippolyta.
N6: The beautiful Hippolyta!
Scene 2: Cont. (right before trumpet sounds again p. 4)
Narrator 7: One of the Duke’s helpers, Egeus, interrupts the Duke
N8: And boy oh boy does he have a problem
N9: Egeus’s daughter Hermia wants to marry a guy named Lysander
N7: But Egeus wants her to marry a different guy Demetrius
N8: What a problem!
N9: Let’s see what happens…. (Trumpet sounds and Lysander, Hermia and Demetrius enter)
Scene 3:
N10: The play now goes back to the magical forest, all the fairies are hiding there.
N11: And the king of the fairies, Oberon and Puck are there too.
N12: The fairies like to cause trouble,
N10: They are sneaky
N11: And rascally
N12: But now Hermia and Lysander have run into the forest to escape from the castle.
N10: Hermia’s friend Helena and Demetrius also end up there later.
N11: Do you think the fairies can help them?
N12: Sounds like trouble to me.
Scene 4:
N1: We are back with the fairies and the King of the Fairies Oberon and his wife Titania
N2: Oberon wants Titania to give him a human boy she has been raising.
N3: Oberon wants to teach the boy to cause trouble
N1: Titania refuses to give him the boy
N2: Oberon is mad and he hatches a plan with Puck
N3: They are going to plan a joke on Titania and have her fall in love
N1: Ya, fall in love with the first fool she sees
N2/N3: Watch out Titania!
Scene 5:
N4: A group of actors from Athens come into the woods
N5: They are practicing to put on a play for the Duke’s wedding
N6: The fairies watch them from the woods
Scene 6:
N7: Lysander and Hermia are in the woods hiding from Demetrius and Helena
N8: Helena is in love with Demetrius,
N9: But Demetrius is in love with Hermia
N7: He thinks Hermia is annoying
N8/N9: So annoying (shaking their heads)
Scene 7:
N10: Hermia and Lysander are still in the woods
N11: And it’s scary
N12: Very dark and scary
N10: And when they fall asleep, Puck put the nectar of a magical flower in Lysander’s eyes
N11: That tricky Puck
N12: Now Lysander will fall in love with the next person he sees
Scene 8:
N1: Now Titania, Queen of the Fairies is going to bed and the other fairies guard her
N2: While the group of actors show up to work on their play
N3: and that rascally Puck is back with his magical flower
N1: This time he puts the magical nectar in queen Titiana’s eyes
N2: But what happens to the actor named Bottom?
N3: This doesn’t look good!
N1, N2, N3: EEE aww (donkey noise)
Scene 9:
N4: That Puck!
N5: What a trouble maker.
N6: Well he’s trying to make things better.
N4: Not very well.
N5: Are Demetrius and Lysander going to fight over Helena?
N6: Are Helena and Hermia going to fight?
N4: Ugh!!!
N5: What a mess.
N6: You can say that again.
Scene 10
N7: Now, back to Titania and the donkey guy.
N8: This is going to need some strong magic.
N9: Really really strong magic.
N7: Does he even know he has a donkey head?
N8: Doesn’t look like it.
N9: Remind me to stay out of magical forests
Scene 11
N10: Ahh. Back to the court and the wedding of Duke Theseus
N11: Doesn’t Hippolyta look beautiful
N12: I think Duke Theseus can figure out who should marry who without magic.
N10: I hope he can get it right.
N11: Me too!
N12: Me Three!
Scene 12
N1: Now that’s what I call a wedding
N2: Oh ya. It looks like everything came out great.
N3: I hope everyone learned their lesson with magical flowers.
N1: and Donkey heads.
N2: and Remember,
N3: Magical forests can mean trouble.
